Ajna – The Third Eye Chakra

Third Eye Chakra Meaning & Location

The third eye chakra, or Ajna chakra, is in the center of the forehead, is associated with the color purple, and handles intuition and psychic ability. When this chakra is open and balanced, we can see the world as it truly is, not just what is on the surface. We can trust our intuition and decide based on our inner guidance.

When the third eye chakra is blocked or out of balance, we may experience problems with our intuition, such as making poor decisions or being unable to trust our gut feelings. We may also have difficulty seeing the truth, especially if it does not fit into our preconceived notions. We may become closed-minded and dogmatic.

There are many ways to open and balance the third eye chakra. Some simple techniques include visualization exercises, meditating on the Ajna chakra mantra “Om”, and wearing gemstones such as lapis lazuli, sapphire, or azurite.

Your third eye chakra handles your intuition and imagination, so if it’s blocked, you may find that you’re having trouble deciding or thinking creatively. You may also feel out of touch with your emotions or have a hard time trusting your gut instinct.

One way to tell if your third eye chakra is blocked is by checking to see if you’re experiencing symptoms such as:

Overactive Third Eye Chakra & Underactive Third Eye Chakra

An overactive third eye chakra can be a sign that you are too in touch with the spiritual realm. You may see and hear things that others cannot, and you may be more intuitive than average. While this can be a positive thing, it can also lead to problems if you cannot control your intuition.

If you have an overactive third eye chakra, you may constantly scan your environment for potential threats or signs of danger. You may also be more prone to anxiety and stress, as well as delusions. It is important to learn how to properly manage your third eye chakra so that you can enjoy the benefits of your heightened intuition without experiencing the negative side effects.

An underactive third eye chakra can be a sign that you are not in touch with the spiritual realm enough. You may lack intuition and imagination, and you may not be as in touch with your subconscious as you would like to be. This can lead to problems such as depression, anxiety, and a lack of creativity.

If you have an underactive third eye chakra, you may find yourself feeling apathetic and disinterested in the world around you. You may also have trouble imagining or dreaming about the future. It is important to learn how to activate your third eye chakra so that you can enjoy the benefits of your intuition and imagination.

To manage an overactive third eye chakra, you can try several methods. Try to learn how to ground yourself. When your energy is too scattered, grounding yourself can help to bring you back into balance. Some simple ways to ground yourself include walking in nature, sitting with your feet on the ground, and focusing on your breath.

If you have an underactive third eye chakra, you can try to activate it by doing things that will stimulate your imagination. Try listening to music, looking at art, or reading books that inspire you. You can also try to spend time in nature, or do something that makes you feel good on a physical level.

Third Eye Chakra Yoga Poses

With the third eye chakra, or Ajna in Sanskrit, there are plenty of yoga poses that can help to open and energize this powerful energy center. When it’s healthy and open, we’re able to see beyond the physical world and access a higher level of consciousness.

Practicing yoga poses that target the third eye chakra can help us become more mentally clear and focused, as well as more intuitive.

Downward Facing Dog: Downward facing dog is a great pose for opening the entire body. From a standing position, hinge forward at the hips and place your hands on the ground. Spread your fingers wide and press firmly into the ground as you lift your hips up and back, creating an upside down V shape with your body.

Child’s Pose: From downward facing dog, lower your knees to the ground and extend your arms forward so they are parallel with your ears. Sit back on your heels and relax your forehead on the floor.

Supported Shoulder Stand: Supported shoulder stand is a great way to open up Ajna while also calming the mind and relieving stress. Lay on the ground, and with the support from your arms, lift your legs straight until your chest meets your chin.

Standing Half Forward Bend: A standing half forward bend opens Ajna while also stretching out the hamstrings and spine. From a standing position, hinge forward at the hips and place your hands on the ground. Keep your spine long as you fold forward over your legs, reaching for your toes if possible.

Big Toe: From a standing or seated position, reach for your big toe. Hold on to your big toe with one or both hands and gently pull as you straighten and stretch your leg.

Hero Pose: Hero pose opens Ajna while also stretching out the hips, thighs, and ankles. From a seated position, sit back on your heels with your knees bent. Slowly lower your butt down to the ground between your feet and rest your forearms on your thighs.

These are just a few of the many yoga poses that can help to open up and energize the third eye chakra. When practicing these or any other poses, be sure to listen to your body and only go as far as you feel comfortable.
